I was very excited for having been selected to participate in the Mandela Washington Fellowship and when I knew that I was placed at the University of Georgia, I went online to check about UGA and I got even more excited when I learned that UGA is the first State-chartered public University in the United States and that we are the first cohort of Mandela Washington Fellows to be hosted at UGA. I really appreciated the warm welcome we got from the UGA Mandela Washington Fellowship team upon our arrival.
What I enjoyed most about the first week was the Pecha Kucha presentation and the “Africa in Athens” event. It was very instructive and beneficial as we learned about each other’s activities in our respective countries as well as sharing information about our countries with one another and with our American hosts and friends.
I learned many things but there were two things that were new to me and which I really appreciated: the Pecha Kucha presentation and the speed networking. It was a very good and valuable experience! I will share and apply the skills I learned about the Pecha Kucha presentation and the speed networking with my community, friends, and association when I return home. It was an honor and privilege to have been welcomed by the Mayor of Athens and the president of UGA as well as the UGA Mandela Washington Fellowship Team and the Athens community at large.
