Leading from Strengths

It’s so amazing to see how time is moving by so fast, it has been an awesome few weeks and we have bonded among ourselves and also with the institute staff. I really enjoyed this week because most of our sessions were practical. Most of the learning sessions involved being practically and physically involved in the lessons, from building ideal communities, to building prototype models of the Africa leadership institutes we envision.

The highlight of my week, which is also a new thing I learned was the Gallop Cliffton strengths Assessment. I have heard several prominent leaders and influential people, talk about how one should realize their weakness and work on it. Very few have put emphasis on focusing on your strong points, hence the title of my blog “Leading from Strengths” I learned that it’s important to focus on the strengths that individual possess in an organization, cultivating them and letting them thrive in that workspace. This, in turn, creates a balance because knowing someone’s strengths enables you to understand why they behave in a particular way, what tasks or what roles will most likely be suitable for them. So am taking the Clifton strengths assessment with me to my lovely country of Zambia and will use it in our organization and leadership training workshops.

One of the things I didn’t expect this week was that we would win the soccer matches against Clark Atlanta and Georgia State University. We were so busy we didn’t practice, but some of the soccer veterans on our team gave us some pointers and we won. Teamwork pays off, hope next year fellows will defend the victory. Go Dawgs!!!
