I most enjoyed making connections with the Dr. Noel Fallows and his Wife Kristin Pope, who works for the Centre for Disease Prevention and Control. It was a pleasant meeting and getting to know more about the work carried out by the CDC in disease prevention and control. As a medicines regulator, we are involved in a lot of work that is linked to some of the work carried out by Kristin, such as reporting of adverse events following immunization, and I believe such connections are essential for establishing future collaborations in public health.
One key learning point this week was the Project Action Plan, whereby I need to be more focused on my approach to resolving the identified problem. This requires careful planning and knowing what funders are looking for in a grant proposal, and aligning the action plan to the requirements.
Something unexpected that I encountered this week was how the group activities became a true depiction of some of the institutions back in my home country. The organisational culture where team working is not truly valid and those in leadership positions tend to dictate solutions, without involving employees, is a common phenomenon that we as leaders must fight to change.
