To give hope to the hopeless, home to the homeless is one of the greatest things one can do. This just what the Parkview Community Center and Chest community are doing. It was amazing to learn and practice some methods used to help these children to put into work their potential. On the surface, one would think that is simply a place to socialize and have fun but is much more than that. In these Centers, they are taught not to give up in spite of surrounding circumstances and the realities they may be living- Limited resources, broken homes, and the reality of segregation as expressed by some of them. The work performed by the Coordinators is amazing, is not a popular place to be, but they have found a thousand reasons to keep on the good work, trusting that there is hope for these kids. This takes patience, dedication, service, time and efforts. What makes the job rewarding I guess, is the fact that in spite of all these challenges they can see the positive impact on these kids. These kids have different personalities, some probably more receptive compared to others, but there is no doubt that all learn something. Having had the opportunity to talk to a couple of them, and hear them express some challenges as well as satisfaction about the existence of the Center brought joy to my heart. Some of them wish that more children will get involved, and will want to see children from other races in the Center. These communities are new homes for these kids, and perhaps one of the best things they have at the moment (if not the only thing).
