Sandy Creek Picnic, CNN tour, and watching the baseball match were the activities I enjoyed most this week. As much as there is a lot of learning to get, leisure is equally important. In this week, I learned 5 common leadership practices and how to apply these in my work area if I had not been doing so or how to improve on these five practices. These practices are modeling the way, encouraging the heart, inspiring a shared vision, challenging the process and enabling others to act. I also learned adaptive and technical leadership challenges as well as how to overcome the challenges associated with each area. In addition to these, I learned the peer consulting process in which my own peers gave me constructive feedback on my project action plan and I did the same for them. I plan to fully develop myself in doing more of the 5 leadership practices while at the same time being aware of the downsides of edges associated with achieving each practice. I plan to take heed of the lessons learned in the peer consultation and to be open to the same process even at home to improve my work both professionally and as a leader. Additionally, I plan to use the experiences of the panel on Creating Creative Educational Spaces to guide my leadership and community engagement journey. This panel showed me that it is never too late to start civic engagement and that building connections and being strategic is the way to effect real societal change.
